CHAPTER 1

THE PECULIAR STORY OF THE LEICESTER ARMS AND THE
BIRTH OF NOBODY

Within the walls of this old pub, hidden in the
laneways behind Melbourne’s iconic Brunswick St
in Fitzroy, we while away our days; losing hours
and finding creative inspiration.

30 years ago we began our quest to design and make

the world’s finest jeans. We began by creating
our own unique facilities, studios and workshops
to customise jeans.

Thus, a new creative space was brought into being;
“Nobody’s Home: The Leicester Arms”. We
sourced premium denim fabric from around the world
and asked ourselves; ‘What can we do to make
this extraordinary?” We wanted to know how this
cloth came to be, what was its story, and what
secrets could it yield to us?

CHAPTER 2

FROM THE COTTON FIELDS TO YOUR WARDROBE

Our process of creating the world's finest 5
pocket jean begins with the hand-selection of
premium
denim from mills across Japan, the USA and Europe.
Our preferred denim cloth is made from high
quality cotton with extra long staple length,
especially chosen to withstand our treatments.

Each thread is specially treated and indigo dyed,
some with different colours inside each core.

These threads are then woven in the traditional way
on various apparatus, including antique narrow
looms. These machines work the threads through
their complicated dance to create selvedge denims,
stretch denims, even denims with a sparse heritage
appeal. Regardless of style, every jean we produce
is composed of exclusive premium cloth
representing the very ultimate in fabric quality.

We love to work hands-on with the Denim mills who
each share our passion for exceptional cloth, so
that we can develop and select the perfect denim
components for the ideal fit and finish.

CHAPTER 3

CREATING THE PERFECT PAIR OF JEANS

Our creative team takes this revered denim fabric,
and minutely examines its every facet. Our
relentless
goal; to take the ultimate in fabric and fuse it
with our craftsmanship and artistic eye to achieve
finesse. We create jeans that redefine the term
“premium”; from the refined luxury of subtly

treated Japanese coated denims, to our more
aggressive unique vintage customisation.

Over 30 years we have gradually fashioned our own
tools, built our own machines and developed our
own techniques, inspired by each other and by the
cloth itself. Paying minute attention to the
detailed characteristics of every fabric, our wash
treatments are designed to accent its subtleties
and intricacies.

We have explored and developed the spectrum of
colours, from the undulation that can only be
achieved with rare, un-treated fabrics to subtle
hand treatments on exclusive coated cloths.

We construct the jeans with an expert eye to
shrinkage and texture variation in a design
culture of constant re-evaluation, so that every
single pair of our jeans is not only unique, but
authentically styled, premium quality and the
perfect fit.

CHAPTER 4

CREATIVE VISION

In 1999 “Nobody” was officially born – a
label founded on the belief that making jeans
could
be imbued with integrity and creativity, and
representative of our love of the cloth.

Nobody, the label, was created to represent a “No

designer hero” ethos: we didn’t want to create
our jeans with any fixed message or identity
beyond always putting integrity first, and making
the very best jeans.

With the pair of jeans you now own, as with every
Nobody jean, the cumulation of our 30 years of
experience and the heritage of our uniquely
Australian perspective combine to give you the
highest quality make in only the very best fabrics.

CHAPTER 5

THE CULT OF NOBODY

As a new owner of a pair of Nobody jeans, we’d
like to think that you share an ideology with us;
one based on optimism and creativity, always
looking to what is fresh and new and exciting, and
taking inspiration from the past. We revel in the
contradictions of the world; the manic and the
calm, it’s simple complexity and it’s complex

simplicity.

website, and with all of our projects and
publications we welcome you to our creative

The Cult of Nobody is a virtual community, wherein
all members we share our inspirations, loves,
ideas and diversions; what is cool, new and
exciting. We like to think that you share an
ideology with us! We revel in the contradictions

Our first store opened in 2006, in Melbourne’s
famous Fitzroy area, a haunt of an eclectic mix of
hipsters, fashionistas, students, free thinkers,

oddities, addicts and square pegs. We created this
store to express the ultimate in nobody attitude,
feeling and look. A space different from any other
retail environment - a kind of denim apothecary
with a gallery.

Originally a warehouse, and once an automotive
repair shop the industrial space has been stripped
back and fused with elements inspired by the
Leicester Arms, the original 1800’s Pub that
serves as our head office and Home. A dramatic

11m (37 ft) long white tiled bar runs the entire
length of the store, and exposed brickwork lines
one wall of the space under the 6m (19ft) ceiling,
found restored vintage floral carpet adds our
wabi-sabi attitude.

Nobody stores are all about service; one of each of
our 80+ styles hang out in the public ‘gallery
space’ you can see the whole story and find your
perfect jean while being helped by our
“no-pressure” denim experts.

Located on what is arguably Australia's largest
and busiest fashion precincts, our Chapel Street
store was opened in November 2008.

We created this store as a cutting edge denim

destination, showcasing the best of what’s
possible in denim design and making it easy to
find your perfect pair of jeans.

Inspired by our original Brunswick street stores
fusion of industrial and luxurious elements, but
in a much more compact space, we teamed old rough
concrete block walls and raw concrete ceiling with
traditional pressed metal, rough black wood, old
copper racks & our restored vintage carpet.

To focus on service, Our 5m white tiled bar again
runs the length of the store, separating neatly
piled stock of thousands of jeans; from the public
“gallery space” where hangs one of each for
you to select from aided by our team of denim
aficionados.
